I can see the merit of using Google Docs as a way of networking with other teachers to share ideas on preparation of resources and sharing of ideas and strategies , but I can forsee the following problems in introducing this tool to some students at the langauge centre
*Students are not always confident about sharing /displaying their work for others to view or comment on.
*There could be issues of misuse and abuse with deliberate sabotage of documents by peers.
*Some students may rely on peers completing most of the work.
*Some students still experience difficulty accessing 'Personal Files Box' in myclasses so Google Docs may be too big a leap for them just yet.
I did say I like to be positive so I am confident that with the fantastic ICT support that we have at the Language Centre we should be able to teach our students the effective usage of Goole Docs. Using Goolge Docs in lessons would entail a great deal of perservance, support ,scaffolding ,language reinforcement and CREATIVE planning by teachers .... When I think of it now all teachers do this all the time at the centre...

Thanks for the depth of analysis in your reflection, Manitha. You have thought-through both the "good" and the "possible bad" of Google docs.
ReplyDeleteI agree Manitha, well said.
